Professor Smith is speaking at the upcoming USEMS 2017 National Undergraduate Sport and Exercise Medicine Conference on Saturday 28th October 2017, in Edinburgh. His talk focuses on the “Importance of diagnostic imaging in SEM.”
The symptoms of a majority, if not all sports injuries are experienced when upright and weight-bearing. A complete accurate MRI assessment can only be made in the position of maximal discomfort. This is not possible lying down in a conventional tunnel scanner, but is easily assessed using an open Upright MRI scanner which allows for scanning erect, weight-bearing and in multiple positions.
