Knee: Contusion PCL

At the Medserena Upright MRI Centre in London, we pride ourselves on the image quality we provide when imaging patients in the weight-bearing position. This position is the best for accurate diagnosis of not only both cervical and lumbar back pain, but also of the hips, knees and ankles.

We use an upright scanner with a unique horizontal magnetic field, combined with modern receiver coils, electronics and software. As a result of the combination of these technologies, the images are of better contrast resolution than at 1.5 and 3Tesla (There is a wider spread of Relaxation times at 0.6T than at 1.5T) and also demonstrate good spatial resolution, at least as good as a conventional 1.5T system. This provides us with all the multi-positional and weight-bearing advantages, but without any of the image quality compromises that have previously had to be made with open MRIs.

Most X-ray examinations of the spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet are made with the patient weight-bearing. We are now able to offer the same positional imaging using MRI, which not only shows bone detail, but more importantly soft tissue detail not available on a conventional x-ray.
