Upright positional MRI is the optimal technique for accurate diagnosis of not only both cervical and lumbar back pain, but also of the hips, knees and ankles.
It is now possible to examine the hip in a weight-bearing position, as well as in different positions, flexion for example.
The case is a 17 year old boy with treated left SUFE. Now complains of painful clicking left hip. The upright positional MRI shows joint impingement.
Treatment. Arthroscopic debridement of the anterior labrum.
