Cervical spine: obese patient

We are all aware that people are getting larger. Often accessing diagnostic imaging can be a challenge for larger patients as MRI scanners, for example, have a limit to the weight and size of person that can be accommodated.

This patient was unable to be scanned in a conventional tunnel scanner due to their size. However, he could be examined using the open Upright MRI scanner , which provides a quality solution for this type of patient.

The FONAR Upright MRI system at the Medserena Upright MRI Centre is able to accommodate heavier patients more easily than conventional closed scanners, without a loss in diagnostic image quality. Patients weighing up to 35stone (226 kg) may be scanned.
