Lumbar Spine: anterolisthesis

Neutral seated

This patient’s lumbar spine has a grade one anterolisthesis at the L4-5 level that is minimally unstable, and shows a reduction in annular height anteriorly on forward flexion, which increases when the spine is extended.

Weight-bearing and variable patient positioning enables a more precise diagnosis. The Medserena open Upright MRI system permits scanning of the lumbar spine in neutral , flexion and extension positions. Frequently, as in this case, pathology manifests itself to a greater or lesser extent depending on the positioning. This information cannot be obtained in a “conventional” lying down scanner.
